Summary - This novel is about the misery of the Baudelaire orphans, named Violet, Klaus and Sunny who’s parents had recently died in a fire. The children have to go live with their relative Uncle Monty who plans to take them on a trip to Peru. The evil person in the story is named Count Olaf. Count Olaf is trying to steal the family fortune. The story has all kinds of surprise and the children go to a lot of interesting places. The title of the book refers to the place where Uncle Monty keeps his snakes, lizards, turtles, and other reptiles. It is also where a lot of the action takes place. I can’t tell you anymore because I would spoil the book. All and all the book is pretty good. There are also more books about the same children written by Lemony Snicket.
Suspense
- The suspense was O.K although it didn’t keep me on my feet. I was eager
to keep reading to find out what would happen next like one part of the
story when Violet, Klaus, and Sunny were trying to convince Mr. Poe, their
Banker, that Stephano war really Count Olaf. wouldn’t stop reading. The
suspense was pretty good over all. Rating: ![]()

Character
Development - The character development was great. The characters
were detailed well and had their own little occupation. Violet loved Mechanics
and was always making inventions like in one part of the story she made
a lock opener.
Klaus loved to
read. He helped Uncle Monty read up on a snake. Sunny loved to bight stuff.
She has four sharp teeth and in one part of the story she helped Uncle
Monty by using her teeth to cut though a rope. Overall the character development
was great. Rating: ![]()

Important
Lessons - The most important lesson that this book teaches us is
that although you may be good, bad things can still happen to you. You
should always try to make the best out of what you have. The book also
teaches us that small people are able to do big things.Rating: ![]()

Imagination
- The imagination was really good. The author made me picture all
the scenes .The reptile room had cages, with pointy tips on the tops, holding
giant snakes. The lizards were put in little glass containers and the turtles
has their own little water fountain with water squirting out of the top.
Overall the imagination made me really see the book in my own mind.Rating: ![]()

Difficulty
- The book was pretty difficult to read. The words were complicated and
I would recommend this book for kids nine to fourteen years old. There
were a lot of words that I had not seen before but sometimes the book gave
their meaning. Rating: ![]()

Author Report
The name of the author of this book is Lemony Snicket. I don’t think this is his real name. I couldn’t find any information on his real name or where he lives on the internet. Lemony Snicket is described as a person born in a small town who’s people were suspicious. He now lives in a city but he doesn’t say which one it is.
