Our Secretary Mary Alexander
Mrs. Alexander or " Mary " as she is known , is the office administrator at St. Michael's. That is her official title, but it does little to describe what part she really plays in the day to day lives of our children.
Working in an office next to hers for the last few weeks has given me a deep appreciation for this remarkable lady.
Her role as substitute mom to the 200 students is no easy task. The children always seem to know where to go for a band aide, a telephone call home when they are not feeling well or just a hug or comforting word as they go past the office window.
Forgotten lunches, music instruments and late slips administered with a firm hand but a soft heart fills more than a few minutes of her day.
Teachers schedules , lost files, correct spelling of words, helping volunteers settle in to the day to day routine of school life are more of her tasks, always done in good humor.
She has a wonderful memory and whether she's naming extended family members, when a child can't reach mom or dad or finding lost files or newsletters she is very seldom wrong.
As you can see her job title leaves out what I have come to see as her finest asset to our school, her big heart.
