There are few rules at St. Michael’s, however, it is the responsibility of all students to follow the rules so as to protect the safety and welfare of all and to maintain a positive school atmosphere.

CORRIDORS

Students are expected to:

Remove outside footwear when entering the building and keep these items in their lockers.

Refrain from excessive noise, inappropriate touching, and horseplay (jumping, throwing things, pushing, etc).

Refrain from eating or drinking on the corridor.

Be in their classes, preparing for class when the second bell rings.

BUSSING

Only students who live further than 1.6 km from the school are permitted to ride the school bus.  These students are expected to:

Line up and board the bus in an orderly fashion at designated loading zones.

Remain seated until the bus comes to a complete stop.

Keep windows closed.

Follow the instructions of the school bus driver.

CAFETERIA

Students who eat in the cafeteria are expected to:

Eat their meal in a quiet manner.

Refrain from shouting, pushing, banging on the tables, or any other disruptive activity.

Leave their seats only when given permission.

Leave their place clean, with all garbage removed.

PLAYGROUND

While on the playground students are expected to:

Care for the school grounds by keeping them clean.

Play safe.

Remain on the school grounds, in their own play area, before school, during recess and lunch time, unless given permission to leave by the Principal or Vice-Principal.

Students must not ride bicycles around school grounds.

Refrain from throwing hard or dangerous objects such as rocks and snowballs.

If a student has made the choice of not following the appropriate behaviours, they will be subjected to the Course of Action as outlined in the St. Michael’s Code of Behaviour.

In all cases, the Administration will be advised of the student’s conduct and will initiate consequences in accordance with the Course of Action.

SEVERELY DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOUR

Behaviour that is frequent or serious enough to significantly disrupt the learning climate of St. Michael’s, endangers the wellbeing of others, or damages school property is classified as severely disruptive.

This type of behaviour rarely occurs at St. Michael’s, however, students who display behaviour of this nature will be dealt with immediately and in accordance with the St. Michael’s Code of Behaviour.

Examples of severely disruptive behaviour include:

Vandalism
Persistent opposition to authority
Habitual neglect of responsibilities
Bullying or fighting
Smoking on school property
Pulling fire alarms
Physical or sexual assault/harassment
Possessing or selling stolen property; drugs, alcohol or weapons of any sort

The immediate consequence for any of these behaviours will be suspension from St. Michael’s, followed by a conference with the parent/guardian and the student.
