Congratulations Ms. Pike!

Huge congratulations to our principal, Ms. Christina Pike, for being recognized as one of Canada's Outstanding Principals by The Learning Partnership.  Of course, we weren't surprised...we already knew that she is outstanding!

End of Semester 1 and beginning of Semester 2

Tuesday, January 31st is the last day for Semester 1 courses.  Students will receive a new schedule on Wednesday with their Term 2 courses.  All assignments for Semester 1 courses should now be submitted and marks will be finalized (they will appear on the next report card in early March).  Please note that semesterized courses count towards the awarding of Principal's List, Honours and Distinction - students should ensure that all work has been completed!

Pink shirts for anti-bullying day

On February 14th, St. Paul's will be celebrating Pink Shirt Day.  Pink shirt day is an initiative which raises awareness of anti-bullying in our schools and is a time for students to wear a pink shirt to show their support for this campaign.  With this in mind, we are offering students the option of purchasing a pink t-shirt to wear on this special day.  The cost of the shirt is $5.00 and payment is due this Wednesday, February 1st.  If you are interested, please send along the order form and money by Wednesday.

Presentation by Holy Heart about high school courses

Holy Heart is having a meeting Tuesday, January 31st for parents of Grade 9 students to discuss Level 1 course selection.  The meeting will start at 7:00 in the Holy Heart Theatre. Following that meeting there will be an additional meeting for parents of students interested in the International Baccalaureate program.

Representatives from Holy Heart will be at St. Paul's on Wednesday to discuss course selection with Grade 9 students.

Career Fair

On Wednesday morning, February 1st, all Grade 9 students will have the opportunity to go through a 'Career Fair' being held in our school gymnasium.

Helping from home?

If any parent is available to help out our Home Economics program by cutting out some material (you can do this from home), please email Jill Rowe .

MCP expiry dates requested

We have been advised by the school district that we need to enter expiry dates for all MCP cards in our attendance system.  These would be required in case of an emergency if a student needed medical assistance.   Could you please email your child's homeroom teacher (click on Teacher Websites and Email to the left) with the expiry date. We appreciate your cooperation!

After-school tutoring

Once again this year, we are pleased to be offering after-school tutoring for all students.  This will take place in the Learning Resource Centre from 3:00 - 4:00 every Wednesday.  Peer tutors, students from Holy Heart and teachers will be available to assist any student.

Extra-curricular activities - get involved!

Students are encouraged to get involved with extra-curricular life at St. Paul's.  We have something to appeal to nearly everyone!  Students should listen closely to announcement and keep an eye on the bulletin boards around the school for information about different clubs, teams, groups and activities starting.

For all information about sports teams and tryouts, please click the 'Athletics at St. Paul's' link on the left.  If you are a coach and wish to get your information out, please email Mr. Smith, our Athletic Director and he will put your information online.  For other activities, click the 'Extracurricular Activities' link on the left, and email Mme. Webb if you have anything to post on this page. Band and Choir information should have already gone out to all students who indicated an interest.  Permission forms must be returned before attending the first rehearsal this week.  Please email Ms. Coady with questions about choir and email Ms. Pope with questions about band.

The parking lot is now ONE-WAY - parents/guardians MUST enter using the lower entrance at the crosswalk and exit closer to Carrick Drive.  Our busses will now drop off and pick up students at the FRONT of the school, so please respect the bus lanes. Students may be dropped off in front of the building during the morning, but must be picked up BEHIND THE SCHOOL at 3:00.

Important: Contact Information

We will be continuing our use of our school's automated messaging system. The system is called "SynreVoice". It will be used to send announcements, by telephone and email, to our school community — these announcements could relate to an up-coming school event, to school closures or for other reasons that the school deems necessary. This automated system will also be used to keep parents/guardians informed about their child's attendance at school. Normally, absence calls will go to the home telephone number. This system will leave a message on an answering machine. The school receives a report of all calls made and the result of each attempt.

In September, all students will receive a 'Contact Information' sheet.  It is crucial that these are returned to the school as soon as possible so we can ensure that we have accurate contact information for you.

At St. Paul's we strongly believe that contact with the home is essential to the academic success of our students and we thank you for your support.

We request that all students apply for ClassAct e-mail accounts. This service is provided by the Department of Education's CDLI division and is explained in the link below. Therefore, we will be sending applications home in September for all new students. Should the form not be passed in, your child will not have e-mail access at the school. The students' ClassAct account is accessible from any computer and helps provide more Internet safety and discretion for your child. The form has been attached here:
