A Dragonfly
by Florence Page Jaques
A dragon fly
Is very thin,
Straight and shining,
Like a pin,
With narrow wings
Of stiffened gauze,
And in the air
He likes to pause
And look at you
With popping eyes.
He shimmers like
A small surprise.
A Butterfly Grows and Changes
Pale, yellow eggs
Hold a surprise.
One day
They will be butterflies
Hungry like caterpillar
All you are doing
Is
Chewing
Chewing
Chewing
Chrysalis of jade
Hanging on a stem,
Hiding all the change
Within
Shimmer
Shine
Flutter
Fly
A gentle butterfly
Passes by.

Shiny Green Bug
(Sung to the tune of "Little White Duck")
Chorus:
There’s a shiny green bug
sittin’ by the water.
A shiny green bug
doin’ what she oughter.
Verse One:
Her special name is dragonfly
and she stares at you with her great, big eye.
Repeat Chorus above.
Verse Two:
She lays her eggs near a clear, wet pool.
And she sits on a stem looking like a jewel.
Repeat Chorus.
Verse Three:
She flies in the air searching for her lunch.
And she grabs an insect for a tasty munch!
Repeat Chorus.

It’s an Insect
(Sung to the tune of "My Darling Clementine")
It’s an insect
not a spider
It has six legs
instead of eight.
3 on this side
3 on that side
and it’s crawling on my plate.

My Brother’s Bug
by Jack Prelutsky
My brother’s bug was green and plump,
it did not run, it could not jump,
it had no fur for it to shed,
it slept all night beneath his bed.
My brother’s bug had dainty feet,
it did not need a lot to eat,
it did not need a lot to drink,
it did not scream, it did not stink.
It always tried to be polite,
it did not scratch, it did not bite,
the only time it soiled the rug
was when I squashed by brother’s bug.
