SAFE WORK NL...WHO WANTS TO SAVE A LIFE?

Tricentia Academy is extremely proud of a group of students (Jody Hickey, Kenline Hickey, Kenny Williams, Kayla Tobin, and Mitchell Brewer) who were recently successful at the final competition in Gander on May 19.  It was an amazing final competition with both teams claiming the grand prize of $1000 each for individual awards, as well as $5000 for the school...way to go TEAM!!  Details of the competition, along with pictures of the finals and our winning team can be found at the following site:   http://www.safeworknl.com/Game%20Show/home.htm

EASTER ASSEMBLY HIGHLIGHTS

Our Easter Assembly was simply amazing.  Many students and groups were recognized for various awards and accomplishments.  The Tricentia Academy choirs were recognized for their great performances at the Kiwanis Music Festival, and awed the school community with their songs.  Numerous Lion's Club Speak-Off Awards were presented to students for great speeches that were delivered earlier in the year.  A Duke of Edinburgh Award was presented to Nichole Stryde...what a great accomplishment Nichole!  Winners of the "I Spy Challenge" from an Education Week contest were announced, as well as a "Jelly Bean" contest from Easter Week.

Mr. Calvin Peach was present at our assembly for the presentation of a $6500 Provincial Wellness Grant for our school...a special thank-you to Mr. Peach and those individuals at the school who prepared the application for this grant...great job!

Finally, and VERY IMPORTANTLY, we had several students who participated in Tricentia's 2nd Annual SHAVE FOR THE BRAVE.  Dusty Gilbert organized this wonderful event and there were four students (Dusty, Mason, Bert, Branton) and one teacher, Mr. Smith, who had their heads shaved.  A special thank-you to Mr. Slade for volunteering his time (and barbering skills) in coming to our school to shave the heads.  Also, a thank-you to those other individuals who participated in the fund-raising for this event...GREAT TO SEE!!!

EDUCATION WEEK...March 7-11
I THINK.  I CAN.  - iThink.  iCan!
Penser, c'est pouvoir. - iPenser.  iPouvoir!

Education Week has always been about celebrating education and the
importance of learning.  This year's theme is "I Think. I Can. - iThink.
iCan!,  Penser, c'est pouvoir. - iPenser. iPouvoir!"
  It has been
broken down into separate sentences for emphasis and combined with
the popularity of technological devices such as iPhones and iPads.
Technology, Community and Personal Development will be sub-
themes that are focused on as the week progresses.

Tricentia Academy will be planning various events/activities...stay tuned for more
  information!

MORE SUCCESS on the VOLLEYBALL COURT

During the weekend of Feb. 25-27, Tricentia Academy had the senior boys participating in the NLVA Juvenile B tournament in Clarenville, and the the senior girls participating in the Juvenile C tournament in Lewisporte.  The teams represented the school very well, both on and off the court.  The girls reached the Quarter Finals and the boys won the Juvenile B tournament...well done!  Special congrats to Josh Lockyer and  Nathan Ploughman who were named to the All-Star team and to Tyler Lockyer who was named the tournament MVP!

MANY THANKS go out to all those individuals who helped out with the tournament, especially Ms. Lisa Courtney, the tournament convener.  A special thanks, as well, to all those who billeted boys from the other schools...without your support the tournament would not have been possible.  Thanks, again, to EVERYONE involved!!!!

Kerry Clarke Memorial Volleyball Tournament

Tricentia Academy and the Senior Boys Volleyball Team were honored to host the
Kerry Clarke Memorial Volleyball Tournament this past weekend, November 26/27.  Mr. Clarke, a teacher of the school, passed away suddenly this past June.  Mr. Clarke was a great sports fan and was extremely involved in the athletics program at our school.

A special thank-you is extended to Dion Piercey (coach) and the Senior Boys Volleyball team who organized this event in memory of Mr. Clarke.  Teams came from six schools in the area to participate and the Senior Boys team from Tricentia won the gold medal in a very close championship game.  It was a very special win for the team and Mr. Piercey.

Thanks to all those (including parents, student, staff) who contributed in making this event a success.

Thank-you, as well, to members of the Clarke family, and special friends, who were in attendance at the event on Saturday...our thoughts and prayers remain with you...
