The Provincial Schools Act states that all school
age children must attend school on a regular basis. When a child is absent from school a written
note is required for attendance purposes.
This note may be sent when your child returns to school. Please notify your child’s teacher if your
child will be absent for an extended period of time.
When sending payments to school for activities,
please place the money in a clearly marked envelope with your child’s name and
the purpose of the payment written on it.
This will assist us in accurate record keeping.
Progress reports will be sent home three times within the school year: November, March and June. Parent - teacher conferences will be scheduled at the end of the first two reporting periods. There may be other times throughout the year where contact between home and school may be necessary. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of every opportunity to discuss their child’s progress.
Canteen services are provided for the morning session only. Woodland Primary is committed to offering the students nutritional, nut-free snacks. A canteen price list will be sent home within the first week of school. If at all possible please send your child to school with the correct change.
A canteen order is taken before 8:45a.m. Students must place their order at this time as the canteen will be closed after the recess trays are delivered to the classrooms. If your child is going to be late due to an appointment or some other valid reason, please pack an appropriate recess snack for your child.
All students will enter the school through their appropriate pod entrance doors. Walkers will exit the building in the same manner. However, bus students will exit the building according to their scheduled bus line.
If a student will be arriving
late, for whatever reason, he/she must enter the building through the main/gym
entrance as all pod area doors will be locked after 9:00 a.m. each morning.
If for any reason there is a
change in your child’s regular routine for dismissal, please send a note to the
classroom teacher outlining this change.
Bus students are dismissed through
designated entrances and are accompanied by a teacher. Kindergarten and Grade One students who do
not travel home by bus must be picked up in their coatrooms. Grade Two and Grade Three students who do not
travel by bus may be picked up at the top of the stairs adjacent to the parking
area. All walkers will not be dismissed
until all busses have left the parking lot.
School closure due to inclement weather or any other unforeseen circumstance may occur from time to time. In the event of such a closure an announcement will be made over the various radio stations. Occasionally school will close or re-open for the afternoon session.
It is essential that the information provided on the student registration forms is accurate. If there are any changes in a student’s address or telephone number, please contact the school. This information is extremely important because it enables the school to ensure that all children arrive home safely.
Any student transferring to
another school will require a transfer form for their new school. Please give the school at least one weeks
notice to prepare the documentation.
We do have students in our school
who have life threatening allergies to specific food items. Thus, we do not permit peanuts or nut
products in the school.
We ask all students and their
families to be very conscious of these products when packing snacks. If your child has any specific medical
condition of which we should be aware, we ask that you notify your child’s
teacher immediately.
Lunch time bussing is provided for the majority of our students. However, there are a small number of students who live a great distance from Woodland Primary. Due to lack of time these students remain at school for the lunch hour. The only students who may avail of this lunch hour are those living in the following areas: Red Cliff, Wooddale, Grenfell Heights and Grand Falls - Windsor North.
Woodland Primary is involved in
various fundraisers throughout the school year.
The school uses the profit from these fundraisers to purchase resources
needed to enhance programming. All
fundraisers will be approved by
Please remember that homework is
an integral part of the learning process. Suggestions on how much time should
be spent on homework each night is outlined in the
Kindergarten: Although homework may be a part of the
Kindergarten year, students may voluntarily collect items and information for
sharing at school or take items and information for sharing at home.
Grades 1-3: Homework is primarily voluntary. It may include work assigned at school but
not completed within the instructional time.
Homework at this level should not exceed one-half hour per day.
Woodland Primary encourages all parents to listen to their children read each day and record their work in their individual reading logs. Please remember that you can help strengthen your child’s skills and ensure quality education.
Students in Grades Two and Three are expected to use their homework agendas/planners to write down all assigned work and parents/guardians are expected to ensure that this assigned work is completed as required. Please sign or initial completed homework and use the agenda to report to the teacher any concerns or problems requiring prompt attention.
Woodland Primary strives to become a bully - free school. Please be reminded that bullying starts with teasing, which can often get out of control. Bullying may also involve pushing, rough play, tripping, throwing snowballs and other physical acts. As part of our safe schools plan, all students receive sessions on bullying which include video presentations, class discussions, role play activities, written responses and take home information.
A Book Bag Program is in operation in Kindergarten and Grade One. This program is run by parent volunteers. At the beginning of the year you will be asked to sign a contract agreeing to participate in the program and to be responsible for the cost of any damage incurred. A bag and 5 books have a value of approximately $30.00. Each week your child will be able to bring home a bag containing five books. The books are for you and your child’s enjoyment. It will be important to return the book bags promptly as another child will be waiting to exchange his/her bag for a different one. This can only work if all bags are returned on time. You are encouraged to spend quality time reading and talking with your child each day.
School photos are taken yearly, usually in October. Parents are given a choice of package prices and retakes are provided.
Special and seasonal assemblies are held at Woodland Primary to promote learning outcomes and create a sense of school community. Throughout the year clergy, special guest speakers parents and other community members are invited to share in the assemblies.

Helping hands are welcome in many
ways at the school. Some parents
volunteer on a regular basis while others help when a need arises. At times we may contact you if we feel you
can assist. However, if you would like
to volunteer, please contact your child’s teacher. There’s always a lot to do!
Woodland Primary recognizes that
parent volunteers are an essential part of our school community. If parents
wish to become volunteers they are asked to contact the school. A screening
process will be in place according to
Canadian Parents for French (C.P.F)
There is an active Canadian Parents for French
group who are involved in supporting the French Immersion program specifically,
but maintain an active interest in Core French and the whole school program.
They are active in fundraising for French program materials.
All visitors entering Woodland Primary must report to the office. Parents and/or guardians or other persons must obtain permission from the office for classroom visitations.
If for any reason there is a change in your child’s regular routine for dismissal, please send a note to the classroom teacher outlining this change.
We kindly ask that parents of
Grades One, Two and Three students remain outside the pod areas due to the
congestion in these grade areas.
For the
safety of our students we ask that you drive carefully in the area of our
school. Do not leave your vehicle
running if unattended while dropping off or picking up students.
We have
posted several “No Parking” signs and we trust that you will adhere to these
signs. It is important that these spaces
be left open for busses to turn and enter the parking lot properly. It is also important to leave this area clear
in case of an emergency.
Please be
advised that vehicles are not permitted to drive down the hill from EVI
Maple. This is a designated “Do Not
Enter” area. We have two parking areas
one in front of our building for K & 1 parents (leaving the spaces by the
fence for staff) and the other parking area is adjacent to EVI Maple for 2
& 3 parents.
Lost &
Found containers are placed in each of the grade area coatrooms. We encourage
both children and parents to periodically check for items that may be missing.
Please label all items belonging to your child.
