Town of Grand Falls-Windsor

     The town of
Grand Falls-Windsor is in Central Newfoundland.  It has a population of 19,620 people.   Grand Falls-Windsor is a paper town.  It began in 1905 when the Anglo Newfoundland Development Company signed the terms of agreement with the Newfoundland Government to build a town and operate a paper mill in the interior of the island.  It will soon be 100 years old.  This town has a lot to offer its citizens.
My dad works for the Parks and Recreation Department.  They take care of the parks, playgrounds, stadiums, and sports fields in the town.  The depot is the place where they keep all of the tractors, mowers, and trucks.  The small backhoe-loader digs holes for plants and trees all around town.  The mowers mow the grass in the playgrounds, parks, and sports fields.  There is one big loader that puts topsoil into the dump trucks.  Some trucks store shovels, rakes, and other tools that the workers need.
The mayor works at the Town Hall on High Street.  The mayor's name is Mr. Walwin Blackmore.  People voted for him to be the mayor.  There are other councillors who work with the mayor.  They each help look after different things in the town, such as the Salmon Festival, Parks and Recreation, Engineering, and the town's money.
Upstairs in the Town Hall is the council chambers where they have council meetings, and the staff offices are downstairs. The Town Police and the Animal Control Officer also work in the Town Hall.  In 1999, the Town Hall received recognition as a designated heritage building.
