RCMP Detachment

On February 5, 2004 our class toured the
RCMP Detatchment Office which is located on the Trans Canada Highway in Grand Falls-Windsor.  This building opened in 1985 and approximately 30 people work there.
The RCMP have been in town since 1949.  Their main focus is law enforcement.  There are different sections within the RCMP.  They include Highway Patrol, Forensic, Identification, General Investigations, and the Dog Section.  Prisoners can be housed here at the RCMP office for several weeks awaiting trial, or transport to other prisons.
We had lots of fun seeing a real jail cell and we were even put behind bars.  We were shown the investigation room and the identification area.  The officers also have a fitness room where they can continue their physical training.  We even got to sit in a police car!  I was even handcuffed for the
first and hopefully the last time.  All in all, it was a great experience!
On April 12, 2004 my class was awarded an Honorable Mention in the "RCMP 2004 Name the Puppy Contest" that took place in Innisfail, Alberta.  I accepted the framed picture of  the puppy, Phoenix on behalf of my class.  You can see this framed picture hanging on one of the walls in our school if you ever visit our school.
