Frances M. Nichols Community Centre
The YMCA in Canada is dedicated to the growth of all persons in spirit, mind and body, and in a sense of responsibility to each other and the global community. The Exploits Valley YMCA was founded in 1978. The building located on 13 Price's Avenue officially opened on November 4, 1994. This building is owned by the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor and it is operated by the Exploits Valley YMCA. In May 2000 the centre was renamed to the Frances M. Nichols Community Centre in honour of Mrs. Nichols, who was one of the founding members of the YMCA and a longtime volunteer. The Frances M. Nichols Community Centre currently employs 26 people. It has a lot of programs and activities for everyone. It is a place where everybody in town and out of town can go. It has two squash courts, a cross training centre, a swimming pool, kiddies pool, and a multi-purpose gymnasium. At the Frances M. Nichols Community Centre you can swim, exercise, play basketball and do lots of other things too. It offers classes in a wide range of fitness activities from swimming and Aqua fit to Walk fit, aerobics and line dancing. I love swimming there.
