Windsor Stadium

Grand Falls-Windsor is home to two great arenas.  The newest of which is Windsor Stadium located on Price’s Avenue.  It officially opened February 21, 1976.  The building was funded by volunteer donations and government assistance. Windsor Stadium celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2001.
Windsor Stadium has Adult, Family and General skating during the winter season.  The Exploits Valley Minor Hockey Association provides a minor hockey program for girls and boys aged 4 to 16 using both stadiums.  This volunteer group has a House League program as well as a competitive All-Star program in each age group.  I don’t play hockey but my best friend Jack does.  I like watching hockey.  My best NHL player is Mats Sundin.
The Sparkling Blades Figure Skating Club operates from October to April each year with a professional coach available for all age groups.  They use both stadiums.  Their annual closing ice show is fabulous. Some of the girls in my class are figure skaters.
During the summer the Minor Sports Program has In-Line Hockey and Ball Hockey at Windsor Stadium for two age groups 7-11 and 12-16.   The oldest ball hockey league in operation in Newfoundland and Labrador plays at the Windsor Stadium three nights a week from May to August.  This Senior Men’s Ball Hockey League is a proud sponsor of minor ball hockey for boys from ages 12 to 18.  In 1981 the league won the Provincial Men’s “A” Ball Hockey Championship and in 2001 they won the National Juvenile Championship.
Supervised pre-teen and teen dances are held throughout the summer.  What I like best at Windsor Stadium is the community skating party that is held there sometimes.  Skating is free then and Santa Claus drops by to deliver loot bags to the children.
