Central West Regional Health Centre
The Central West Regional Health Centre is situated on 50 Union Street in Grand Falls-Windsor. It officially opened in September 1963. It replaced the Lady Northcliffe Hospital that opened in 1910, and was located on the corner of Lincoln Road and Carmelite Road. At the Central West Regional Health Centre there are more than 600 people working there, and there are 130 beds. It serves a referral area population of approximately 110,000 people serving communities from Springdale to Gander, and the south coast. The hospital is well equipped with equipment, and it has an emergency room, a nursery for newborns, inpatient ambulatory clinics, and diabetes clinic etc. There are ambulances to carry sick people to the hospital. My class went to visit my dad’s clinic for pediatrics. Kids that are sick go there for treatment, and kids that are well go there for routine health care. The patients have to wait until a doctor can see them. Meanwhile, you can play in the play area, or read a book or a magazine. The nurse weighs and measures you, and she takes your blood pressure. Then the doctor will see you, examine you, and talk to your parents. In the end they give you a treat. It can be a candy or a popsicle. I enjoyed this field trip, and I say thank you to all the people who made this trip so wonderful. I would also like to thank my teacher and my parents for their help and suggestions.
