| Lodge Northcliffe Lodge Northcliffe is a Masonic Lodge located at 25 Memorial Avenue in Grand Falls-Windsor. It is called Lodge Northcliffe because Lord Northcliffe, founder of the Anglo-Newfoundland Development Company and the paper mill in our town, was a member there. The Lodge started on May 4th, 1911. The building it uses now was built in 1953. Men meet at the Lodge, and they help the community and they learn more about themselves and their abilities. No one gets paid to work there because they are all volunteers. It is really cool upstairs in the lodge because it has a lot of different things there. There is a pretend sword outside the door. Downstairs there is a big room for parties. There is a kitchen there, too. Masonic is the oldest men’s club in the world (over 400 years old). Girls go to all of the parties there, and they are always treated as very special guests. The first Premier of Newfoundland, Joey Smallwood, was a member of Lodge Northcliffe. There are Masonic Lodges all over the world. My dad is a member of the Masonic Lodge. Kate Newell (2004-2005) |
