Centennial Groceteria

Centennial Groceteria is located at 3 Cartwright Plaza on Cartwright Street in Grand Falls-Windsor.  It first opened in 1967, the Centennial year for Canada.  Six people work there in the winter and eight people are employed in the summer.  It is open from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., seven days a week.  The store is owned by Brian Thomas.
Centennial Groceteria  sells lots of food items: fruits, vegetables, chips, bars, candy, groceries, meats, baked goods and Newfoundland staples such as savory, salt meat, hard bread, etc..  It also sells miscellaneous items such as lotto tickets, books, magazines, greeting cards, wrapping paper, just to name a few things.  They sell the Downhomer, the magazine that travels all over the world so that Newfoundlanders living away can see what's happening at Home.  When my teacher wants to find out what's happening in the Green Bay area where she taught for many years, she picks up a copy of the Nor'wester newspaper at Centennial Groceteria.  They also rent movies - VHS and DVDs, and lots of games.  What makes Centennial Groceteria famous is "
They are the home of the BIG SCOOP," which is the BIGGEST scoop of ice cream in Grand Falls-Windsor, and we all love ice cream!
