| Rogers Television Rogers Television is located on Hardy Avenue in Grand Falls-Windsor. Rogers provides cable television service for our town. Rogers is also an internet provider. It also does a show that comes on channel 9 called Grand Central. We met the host of Grand Central, Joan Hawkins, during our visit. My father is a volunteer with Rogers. He interviews many different people for Grand Central. He gets to meet a lot of interesting people. He just did an interview with Olympic Gold Medalist Brad Gushue. Brad Gushue’s team won the Gold Medal in curling in the recent Olympics in Italy. There are about 12 people that work at Rogers and we met some of them when my three classmates and I visited Rogers Television after school one day. We took our Flat Pen Pals from Tany's Dell School in Harlow, England with us. Rod said he was a technician and he showed us the room where all the electronic equipment is stored and the cable television signal is received. We also met a lady named Rose who sells advertising to businesses for the cable Ad Channel. There are also people who work in the office just inside the front entrance who help people pick out their TV channels, or to pay their cable bill. Their names areTracey and Sheila and they gave us some treats. Sheila took us into another room and showed us the new technology where you can watch your favorite show whatever time you want, and other cool stuff. The best part of our visit was inside the Television Studio with all the cameras and TV screens. A guy named Reg said that he was the Station Manager and he showed us how all the computer and electronic equipment worked. I got to sit on the set where Grand Central is taped and I interviewed Jacob, Michael, and Brandon from my class. We talked mostly about hockey, but Brandon was telling me about his interest in photography. They taped our interviews, and our whole class and all the Grand Central viewers got to watch us and our Flat Pen Pals on television. My flat pen pal, Flat Jordan Routledge, loved Rogers Television. It was a fun and interesting trip to Rogers Television. I hope I can go back again soon. Bradley Manuel (2005-2006) |
