Dr. Andrew Harvey’s Family Dentistry office is located in the basement level of the Central Pharmacy building on Union Street. My dad owns and operates Central Pharmacy. Dr. Harvey opened his dental practice in July of 2004. He graduated from Dalhousie University’s School of Dentistry in 1993. He worked in Gander for several years and more recently in our town as an associate for other dentists before becoming his own boss and owner--- something he has always wanted to do.
He is happy to say that his is a growing business. He hopes to have dental hygienist on staff soon to help ease the ever growing workload. Dr. Harvey helps people who need routine check-ups and he also handles emergencies for people who may have had accidents and damaged their teeth. Dr. Harvey works in the hospital operating room once a month for more difficult cases which might need general anesthetic, such as removal of wisdom teeth or to repair complicated injuries to teeth.
One day after school three of my classmates and I visited Dr. Harvey's office to get pictures to put with my report. My brother, Matthew, and Conor's brother, Colin, came with us. We also took our Flat Pen Pals from Tany's Dell School in Harlow, England with us. Our tour began in the reception area which has lots of toys for children to play with, as well as a TV. We then visited an operatory which houses the dental chair and lots of other equipment. I played the part of dentist while Bradley, Jacob, and Brandon stood in as my patients. I even gave my flat pen pal, Flat Jemma Gorman, a dental checkup. This part was fun! Dr. Harvey also has a TV above the dental chair so patients can watch their favourite show during their examination. Now that’s a good idea! Next we toured the sterilization area, power room, and x-ray room. Dr. Harvey also showed us a panoramic x-ray.
Dr. Andrew Harvey is a special dentist because he is very caring with his patients and conscientious about his work. He has a reputation for being very gentle and kids love him. Speaking of "special" and "kid", did I mention that Dr. Andrew is also my uncle? And I have no cavities...yet!
