The Golden Years Estate is a 67 bed personal care facility for seniors that is located at 348 Grenfell Heights. It consists of two beautiful buildings. The Golden Years Estate opened about 12 years ago. It is a nice place where seniors can feel at home and get three home cooked meals a day. There are about 30 people working there. It has a Beauty Shop where the seniors can go to get their hair cut or styled. Also, transportation is provided to appointments, Church, and to go shopping if the seniors need it.
My class and I visited the seniors in both of the buildings just before Christmas this year. We sang Christmas songs for the residents in both buildings and we performed a presentation entitled "The Travels of the Christmas Angel." The seniors were so happy to have us there they didn’t want us to leave. We also gave them something very special to help them remember the olden days in Grand Falls-Windsor. Ms Warr’s brother gave her some paper made at the mill and we made samples. When Ms. Warr was a little girl her father used to bring lots of samples home in his mill lunch basket. She and her brothers and sisters used them to make their valentines, and jack-o-lanterns for Halloween to put in their windows. We drew beautiful Christmas pictures on the samples, just like Ms. Warr and her 13 brothers and sisters used to do when they were kids like us. The seniors loved the samples. It was great to see the smiles on their faces as we gave each one a sample. Ms. Warr also gave everybody a picture that she took herself with the mill lunch basket in it. It was a nice picture for them to keep as a souvenir of the 2005 Centennial Celebrations in Grand Falls-Windsor.
