Canadian Tire

      The first
Canadian Tire garage opened on September 15, 1922 in Toronto’s east end.  It was owned and operated by two brothers, John W. and Alfred J. Billes.  Canadian Tire opened its first store in Hamilton, Ontario in 1934.  It has become Canada’s most-shopped retailer with more than 1000 stores and gas bars.  Canadian Tire is three specialty stores under one roof: automotive, sports and leisure, and home products.
The Canadian Tire store in Grand Falls-Windsor is located at 8 Cromer Avenue.  This Canadian Tire store opened in April 1987.  It replaced the original store that was on the same site.  When my class and I went there to take pictures for my report, it was owned by my dad, Ian McEwen.  He operated the store for two years.  Then he sold it and he bought another Canadian Tire store in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  David Dungey is the new owner.
The Canadian Tire store in Grand Falls-Windsor has 45 employees.  Canadian Tire sells sporting goods, houseware, hardware, car parts, seasonal ware, etc..  The garage fixes cars and you can get what you need for your vehicle in the automotive department.  I love going there Christmas time because Canadian Tire has the best selection of Christmas decorations and lots of super toys.  "Christmas starts at Canadian Tire."  Also, Canadian Tire has the Jumpstart Program. This is a community-based charitable program that helps kids in financial need participate in organized sports and recreational activities such as hockey, dance, swimming and more.
My dad took my class on a tour of the store.  Ms. Warr’s nephew, Christopher Ballard, accompanied us on our tour.  He works in the warehouse.  He is also the one who uploads our super reports to the Woodland Connections web site.  We saw the service centre, the offices, and the warehouse where there were lots of boxes.  We all got to sit on the forklift that is used to lift heavy objects.  The class also got to go into the trailer of a transport truck.  We had a good time.  Everybody in my class loved the hockey sak that my dad gave them.  Thank you, Dad!
