Central Martial Arts

Central Martial Arts teaches Taekwondo where people learn self defense as well as values that are used in every aspect of their lives.  Taekwondo training takes place in the Dojang at the Trailway Inn which is located at 110 Main Street in Grand Falls-Windsor.  There are two senior instructors and three junior instructors.  Taekwondo (Central Martial Arts) started for me in September 2006, but it started for Canadians in 1961.  Grand Master Chong Lee was the first person to introduce Taekwondo to Canadians in 1961, but it first appeared in the Koguryo Kingdom in Korea.  The first Taekwondo School started in Korea in 1945.  Before this, Taekwondo was known as ‘Taek kyon’, and goes back to 668 AD.
The colour of the belt is an indication of the skill level of a Taekwondo student.  Sometimes belts can be gained by winning competitions.  The common way is by completing an exam.  Anyone can practise the art of Taekwondo as long as they have the correct amount of focus or a large enough attention span to keep focused during class.  Taekwondo is the most popular martial art in the world.  It became an Olympic sport in Sydney, Australia in the year 2000.  It is practised in over 156 countries and over 30 million people practise it.
My whole class got to see what Taekwondo is like when we went on bus one day to the Dojang with our teacher, Emily Sharpe’s mom, and Denika Lewis’s mom.  We also took our Flat Pen Pals from Tany’s Dell School in Harlow, England with us.  My whole class got to participate.  The instructors showed my classmates how to do some of the moves.  They were amazed when I broke the board into two pieces with my foot.  My flat pen pal, Flat Jack Stokes, really liked it when I broke the board.  You can learn how to do this feat if you sign up for Taekwondo.
