Queensway Esso
The story of Esso began in 1880, when sixteen refiners in southwestern Ontario created The Imperial Oil Company Limited. It has a long history that includes Canada’s first gas station. This Esso gas station was built in 1907 in Vancouver and gasoline was dispensed from a converted hot-water tank through a three-metre length of garden hose. Today you’ll find Esso service stations at almost 2000 convenient locations all across Canada. It is the largest network of service stations in Canada. In 1980 Imperial introduced the Esso Medals and Certificates of Achievement program to recognize improvement, achievement and fair play among minor league players. My friends and I play hockey and we get these Esso medals. One of Canada’s newest Esso gas stations is Queensway Esso. It is located on 47 Queensway Park in Grand Falls-Windsor and it is owned by Ross Dyke. Mr. Dyke started the business in June 2005, by building a brand new building. It has a small kitchen in the back of the store which serves hot chocolate, coffee, hot dogs, sausage dogs, nachos, etc.. There is an area close to the kitchen where you can sit down and eat your snacks if you want. They also sell drinks, chips, bars and other food items such as milk, sugar, etc.. It’s just like a convenience store. Tonia Dyke is the manager of the store and it has a staff of five people. The gas station is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week. It offers a full serve as well as self serve pumps. They deal with a lot of very friendly customers with a very pleasant staff to serve them. They take pride in providing fast and friendly service to get their customers back on the road quickly. Oh, and don’t forget, they have Esso gift cards that would make the perfect gift for someone. I go to Queensway Esso a lot because Tonia Dyke is my aunt. But one day after school I went there with four of my classmates, our teacher and Denika Lewis’s mom. My mom came with us and we took our Flat Pen Pals from Tany’s Dell School in Harlow, England with us. My flat pen pal, Flat Jake Bennett, really liked his visit to Queensway Esso and he got to meet my little cousin, Chantal. Aunt Tonia gave us all a great big sucker and a loot bag containing lots of goodies. Thank you, Aunt Tonia!
