Taiwan Restaurant

Taiwan Restaurant was owned and operated by Harry Chow.  He was born in China and he worked in Hong Kong for a while and then he moved to New Zealand where he worked for five years.  In 1935 he moved to Newfoundland Labrador and in 1938 he opened the Globe Cafe on Main Street.  On Tuesday, November 10,1964 he and his son Tom Yet Foo (Chow) opened the Taiwan Restaurant on High Street in Grand Falls-Windsor.  Mr. Harry Chow died in 1996 at the age of ninety, but the Taiwan Restaurant is a prominent fixture on High Street and it is still a popular place to dine.
When it first opened, Taiwan Restaurant employed two cooks and one helper, along with eight waitresses.  The waitresses wore pink uniforms and white shoes.  Today they employ three cooks and four waitresses.  The uniforms have changed to white shirts and black pants.  The manager is Jian Xin Li.  Taiwan Restaurant offers a wide variety of Chinese and Canadian foods and a daily buffet.  They also offer a private buffet for groups of twenty or more.  You can talso ake out your food.  On their menu you can find: Appetizers, Soup, Egg Foo Young, Seafood Dishes, Pork and Rib Dishes, Sweet and Sour Dishes, Chow Mein, Chicken and Beef Dishes, Fried Rice, Curried Dishes and much more.  The Treasure Nest is one of the many house specials.  It contains scallops, shrimp, BBQ pork, sauteed with fresh vegetables in a crispy nest that you can eat.  The Taiwan has developed a good reputation in the region and across the province.  It's "Chinese and Canadian Foods at their Best!"
One day after school four of my classmates and I visited the Taiwan Restaurant with our teacher and Denika Lewis’s mom.  We took our Flat Pen Pals from Tany’s Dell School in Harlow, England with us.  My flat pen pal, Flat Ellie Greenwood, got to meet the manager’s son who gave us a wonderful tour.  He is in grade one at our school.  Our teacher took lots of pictures and I even got to stand behind the cash register and sit in a special chair.  Thank you, Jamon.  You were a super tour guide.
