War Memorial
                                   Hotel Robin Hood

Hotel Robin Hood is a Canada Select Three Star Hotel open year round.  It is located on 78 Lincoln Road right next to Memorial Park which contains the War Memorial that was built in 1922 to resemble the cenotaph in London, England.  Hotel Robin Hood is situated in a very picturesque setting overlooking the scenic Exploits River which is the longest river in Newfoundland.  This river is not only a great salmon river, it was also the main highway for one of Newfoundland’s first peoples, the Beothuks.  Not too far from the hotel you can see the famous Nonosabasut Rock in the Exploits River.
When Ms. Warr was going to school one of her classmates’ parents owned the hotel.  It was then called Jackman Hotel.  Then it became Carsan’s Hotel.  In 1985 it had new owners but they kept the Carsan name.  In 1990 it was sold again and became the Hotel Robin Hood.  The present owners and operators of this hotel are Graham and Claire Hutchinson.  They renamed the hotel after a legendary folk hero, Robin Hood.  He was a good hearted outlaw who lived in England’s Sherwood Forest and robbed from the rich and gave to the poor.  He was the leader of a band known as the Merry Men which included Friar Tuck and the oversized Little John.  He loved Maid Marian and he tormented the evil Sheriff of Nottingham.
All of their guest rooms are individually decorated and all include A/C, CBTV, direct dial phone with data-port and a choice of smoking or non smoking rooms.  They have free high speed internet connection.  Their room rates include a FREE continental breakfast served from 7:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m..  Pets are allowed to stay at their hotel.  The Sherwood Room can cater to meetings, small parties, anniversaries, and weddings (up to 50 guests).  For a casual dining experience in a relaxing atmosphere, you can visit their fully licensed family restaurant that specializes in English-style fish and chips.  When we visited Hotel Robin Hood the restaurant was being managed by Teri Boterman and her husband.  My classmate, Emily Sharpe, wrote her report about Teri's Place.
One day after school four of my classmates and I visited Hotel Robin Hood with our teacher and Denika Lewis’s mother.  Mrs. Hutchinson gave us an excellent tour of the hotel.  When we introduced her to our Flat Pen Pals from Tany’s Dell School in Harlow, England that we had with us, she told us that she is from England, too.  In fact, she is from the same place the legendary Robin Hood is from.  My flat pen pal, Flat Catherine Tomisich, really enjoyed meeting someone from her own country.  We got to see all the beautiful pictures in the Fine Art Photography Gallery featuring the work of Graham and his daughter, Emma Hutchinson.  Also they have a local art and craft shop.  If you want to know more about Hotel Robin Hood you can visit their web site at www.hotelrobinhood.com and enter the enchanting world of Hotel Robin Hood.
