Hollett’s Retirement Centre

Hollett’s Retirement Centre is a Level I and Level II Personal Care Home.  Groundbreaking for Hollett’s Retirement Centre took place on September 27, 2006 and the place opened on January 11, 2007.  It is located on 29 Park Street facing scenic Hodges Hills.  Residents who live at Hollett’s Retirement Centre are close to a hospital, government services, and businesses.  There are also three or four churches and a new subdivision close by.  Mr. Winston Hollett is the owner and operator of Hollett’s Retirement Centre.  The centre is a family-run business.  Mr. Hollett’s daughter, Amy Coley, is the manager of the facility and his wife, Evelyn, and sons, Todd and Jeff, are all staff members.  Their aim is to provide independence, style, and security to its residents.
Hollett’s Retirement Centre has a sophisticated security system and each suite has a smoke detector as well as emergency call buttons.  The whole building has a sprinkler system, emergency lighting and is under constant video surveillance.  It has a dining room, a common lounge, a beauty salon, a chapel, a doctor's office for visiting health professionals, and a room for social activities and events such as low-impact exercises, card games, bingo, arts and crafts, and much more.  They offer housekeeping and laundry services as well as recreational and social programs.  They serve delicious home-cooked meals and the kitchen is always open for a quick snack.  The first couple to move into Hollett’s Retirement Centre was Ralph and Ena Sweetapple.  The first male resident was Douglas Reccord and the first female resident was Mrs. Florence Lyver.  Various church groups such as the Pentecostal Men's Ministries from the Pentecostal Church on Grenfell Heights make regular visits for afternoon and evening singing.
When three of my friends and I visited Hollett’s Retirement Centre we took our Flat Pen Pals from Tany’s Dell School in Harlow, England with us.  When we visited Mrs. Hilda Wells and her husband in their room we discovered that Mrs. Wells grew up in Harlow, England.  We knew Mrs. Wells because she was a War Bride and she always takes part in our Remembrance Day Assemblies at our school.  She was very happy to hear that we had pen pals from her hometown.  She told us that she loves living at Hollett’s Retirement Centre.  She even had a clock on her wall showing the correct time in England.  My flat pen pal, Flat Kayleigh Copcutt, was very surprised to meet somebody from her hometown.  At Hollett’s Retirement Centre they are committed to treat each resident as if they were a member of their own family.  Mr. Hollett’s mother, Maude Hollett, is also a resident there.  It’s "retirement at its best."  If you want to know more about Hollett’s Retirement Centre you can visit their web site at www.holletts.ca.
